In response to the wishes of Stockton u3a members, this beginners’ Spanish group ‘Pasos a Pasos’launched in January 2025. It is intended to encourage all who would like to start Spanish language acquisition from scratch. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary.

We welcome all who would like to give it a go. Perhaps you are a complete novice or, maybe, you have had a go at Spanish some years ago and would like to revive the fun you then experienced.

Fun will be the operative word in our ‘Pasos a Pasos’ group. It is the enjoyment of the process that is paramount to the way this group will operate. Nobody will be competing and the Spanish primadona (nor her overly flamboyant matador companion) will not be performing here. Our fellow group members will each offer their quiet support and encouragement to all who join our group.

We’ll adopt a fairly traditional approach and focus on basic common vocabulary and early-stage, functional grammar. We’ll be taking things nice and easy as we pick up our ‘first-step’ skills in ‘listening’, reading, speaking and writing in our target language.

Our group name is indicative of our approach: Pasos a Pasos (Step by Step). Gentle, easily digestible nuggets of those everyday Spanish words, all served up on a platter that shows off their cultural significance today, both within Latin America and on the mainland of Spain.

So, if you would like to find out more of what we shall be getting up to at our weekly sessions, please do contact me and I’ll be happy to chat to you about it. Perhaps you could encourage a friend to come along too. The more the merrier. Or as our Spanish friends might say:
