Stockton-on-Tees u3ɑ

Stockton-on-Tees u3ɑ has over 300 members and has been in existence since 1986. Our u3a is open to residents of Stockton-on-Tees and the surrounding area who are no longer in full-time employment. We aim to provide educational, recreational and leisure activities for our members. We are a mutual self-help group with members using their skills and interests for the enlightenment of others or to further their own learning and recreation.

Activities

We have more than 30 Interest/Study groups, which run from January to December with most groups having a summer break. They are run by members and are very popular. Please go to the Groups page for details and times of group activities. Most groups are free of charge, a few levy a small charge to cover the cost of materials, or to contribute towards room hire costs if meeting weekly.

Prospective new group members MUST contact the Group Leader BEFORE attending a session, to ensure there are no changes to the venue or dates. Non-members may try ONE group session as our guest before deciding whether to join our u3a or not.

We also organise our own occasional events and outings, for which information is posted on the Events page.

Monthly Meeting

We meet on Tuesday afternoon of week 1 in our four week cycle for classes, except in August. These optional meetings usually involve talks which are free to members and there is a chance to chat over a cup of tea or coffee. Please go to the Events page for dates of meetings, details of the speakers and location of the meetings. No booking is necessary, just turn up. Non-members may try ONE monthly meeting as our guest before deciding whether to join our u3a or not.

Membership

We welcome new members to participate in our existing activities and to organise new ones on subjects of interest to them. Membership is open to anyone in the Stockton and surrounding area who is no longer in full-time employment, irrespective of ethnic, cultural, social or religious background. There is an annual subscription and entry to most activities is free, though some activities charge a supplement.

Our membership year starts in January. There is a reduced subscription for those joining late in the year. If members, new or otherwise, have any queries they should contact the Membership Secretary for general queries, or contact a particular group leader through the group's page on this website. Alternatively, phone numbers are listed in the welcome pack and on the timetable of group activities provided to all members each year.

Non-member enquiries should be addressed to the Membership Secretary. You may try ONE monthly meeting and ONE group session as our guest before deciding whether to join our u3a or not, but please contact the group leader before attending a group session.
